Since midnight, employees of Aura Minerals / MINOSA (Minerales de Occidente S. A.) have been preparing the area of the Maya Chorti cemetery in Azacualpa to clean out the land in order to introduce explosives and start blasting.

Community members denounce that this has always been the process followed by Aura Minerals / MINOSA before carrying out explosions or blasting.

Above: Community members are there again, re-opening access to their cemetery, illegally closed by Aura Minerals / MINOSA, to carry out their illegal exhumations and blasting of the hill to extract the gold below.

Aura Minerals’ actions are happening despite the sentence (February 4) of the Court of Appeals of Santa Rosa de Copán that reaffirmed the sentence of the Supreme Court of Justice, annulling any authorization to exhume or move the community cemetery.

The damages caused to the Azacualpa cemetery must be repaired immediately. In addition, Judge Rafael Rivera Tabora, Mayor Victor Hugo Alvarado and directors of the mining company Aura / Minosa should be criminally punished for the crimes being committed.
